Diesel Engines :

  • Terminology
  • Main events – of 4 stroke and two stroke cycle.
  • Diesel engine characteristics.
  • Advantages of C.I. engines over spark ignition engines.
  • Basic engine components and construction.
  • Cooling systems – air / water.
  • Lubrication system – pumps, filters and coolers.
  • Fuel systems – injector pump – common rail – Detroit hybrid system.
  • Air delivery system – naturally aspirated, turbocharged – supercharged- filtration.
  • Starter motors- electric, air and hydraulic.
  • Controls – governors – mechanical -electronic.
  • Safety devices – rig savers etc
  • Trouble shooting.
  • Engine and systems maintenance – routine & overhaul.

Gas Engines:

    • Main events of the 4 stroke cycle.
    • Gas engine characteristics.
    • Advantages and disadvantages of the gas engine over the C.I engine.
    • Basic engine components and construction.

    • Fuel system – gas pressure reduction valves- carburetors – gas scrubbers etc.
